Preparing for assessment days at larger training companies
Group exercises, short aptitude tasks, and interviews — how Ausbildung assessment days typically unfold.
Assessment days (Assessment-Center) for Ausbildung places usually combine a short introduction round, a teamwork task, and one or two individual interviews. Some trades add a basic numerical or technical quiz; others focus on reliability and communication.
Arrive knowing the company’s training locations and the Beruf title exactly as advertised. During group tasks, recruiters watch whether you listen, share airtime, and keep the goal in view — dominating the conversation is as damaging as staying silent.
Bring printed copies of your documents even if you applied online. Wear neat clothing appropriate to the trade: a workshop tour may follow a formal interview, and polished shoes that cannot enter a production floor create an awkward moment you can avoid.
After the day, note the names of people you met and any unanswered questions. A brief thank-you message is acceptable when you have a contact; mass emails to generic inboxes rarely help.
